Axiom Space, a leader in human spaceflight services and developer of space infrastructure, and Exobiosphere, a space biotechnology company developing autonomous, high-throughput platforms for disease modeling and drug discovery in microgravity, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) fostering collaboration in biomedical research to accelerate innovative drug discovery on Axiom Space private astronaut missions and aboard Axiom Station in low-Earth orbit (LEO).

“The Axiom Space-Exobiosphere MoU signifies our shared commitment to advancing groundbreaking biomedical research and development and fostering cooperation to enable novel discoveries that can only take place in the microgravity environment,” said Dr. Lucie Low, Axiom Space Chief Science Officer. “Our joint efforts will help us gain deeper biological insights in drug development that can translate into advancements in drug therapies, disease management improvement, and the acceleration of drug discovery helping patients here on Earth.”

Through this collaboration both companies aim to enhance the capabilities of orbital infrastructure to support the scientific research community Axiom Station operations. The MoU outlines cooperation with access to Axiom Space crew and cargo services and a commitment to identifying research infrastructure development opportunities. Together, the two companies will explore in-space manufacturing capabilities in LEO.

“Access to space is only part of the equation for making microgravity useful to drug discovery,” said Kyle Acierno, Chief Executive Officer of Exobiosphere. “Researchers also need the ability to run experiments at scale, with the consistency and controls required to generate meaningful datasets. Through our collaboration with Axiom Space, we can bring Exobiosphere’s automated Orbital High-Throughput Screening (OHTS) platform to Axiom Space private astronaut missions and Axiom Station, enabling thousands of experiments to be conducted alongside matched ground controls. This creates a pathway for pharmaceutical and biotechnology researchers to integrate orbital experimentation into their existing R&D programs.”

The cooperation between Axiom Space and Exobiosphere will fuel innovation and microgravity research for the international research community, advancing our shared knowledge through new commercial space opportunities.
